My goddamn wheel won’t unlock without mercilessly shaking the crap out of it. Then when it unlocks I can’t turn the car off and restart it without re-locking it, restarting the process all over again.

This could also have something to do with me needing a new key maybe? It’s never done this before today. Go figure the day my dad needs it to go to the doctor where his truck is too tall for the parking garage.

I’ve had something similar happen before, on different vehicles. The wheel’s locked when I turn it off, but in such a position that I can’t turn the key to start it unless I shake the wheel like crazy while trying to turn the key at the same time. Pretty annoying.

The locking mechanism is fairly simple, it’s just a spring that hold a pin in place. It should be fairly easy to disable the lock completely.

you should be treating this pretty seriously though. The last thing you want is for the steering lock to engage while driving.

Oh no, I won’t be driving it anywhere without fixing this first.

I just found a guide on how to fix it so I guess I found what I'm doing today.

I could make it about 50 feet up my street, maybe.

Wow, I’ve never seen a car start with the steering lock engaged. Disabling the lock is probably the safest bet here. Didn’t you think about selling it anyway?

That’s about 40 feet further than me.

Yeah, I'm gonna use this guide I found to disable it. Should take half an hour.

I’ve had a Craigslist ad up for a couple weeks now just to test the waters. Nothing on it so far though.

Interesting. I’ve been in vehicles where the steering wheel lock has prevented me from starting the car (easy fix, just pull the wheel away from the stop to allow the ignition cylinder to turn), but never the other way around.

Well I can only do 1 foot unless I want a hole in my garage wall.
